Palm Creek Pickleball Club Members:

The membership fee for the upcoming year will be $50. After much deliberation, the Board decided on this amount to ensure the club remains fiscally responsible.

We know some members have questions about the money we had in the bank moving into this season. We’ve set aside $28,000 for resurfacing eight courts, a project that will begin next week. We’re still negotiating with SUN regarding the final amount, but it will likely be close to that number. Additionally, we’ve allocated $35,000 for updating the lighting on courts 9-16. While that was the estimate in the spring, we’ll need to update the bid when we return. Another bid without member assistance was closer to $70,000. These two projects account for the funds we had moving into this season.

Last season, we had to replace several tournament tents and will need to replace more this year. We’ve also planned to set aside funds for replacing the shades over the walkways in future seasons, as they endure weather year-round. One of our members has been maintaining the ball machines, but we anticipate needing new ones either this season or the next. While there are no “unexpected” expenses, we work hard to ensure that funds are allocated wisely for the best member experience.

As a nonprofit organization, we are allowed to carry funds forward as long as we have capital projects planned. Projects like resurfacing, updating lighting, and maintaining the shades are part of that effort.

When signing up for membership this year, don’t forget to check the waiver. We’ve also added an option to select volunteer roles. Volunteers are crucial to keeping the club running smoothly, so please consider helping out.

Finally, in January, members can nominate themselves or others for a position on the Board. Several spots will be open, and we encourage members to step up and contribute to the club’s decisions.

Important Update

Changes to Club Rating Naming

Dear Members,

The Palm Creek Pickleball Club Board has reached a collective decision to streamline and standardize our rating naming system for greater clarity and simplicity within our community.

Key Details:

• Unification of Naming:
We have consolidated the distinctions of 'Palm' and 'Creek' into our existing first-level numeric fractional values, establishing a unified naming based solely on numeric fractional values from 2.0 to 5.0.

Specifically, the adjustment will maintain the current first-level rating for 'Creek' as is, while 'Palm' will be translated as an additional 0.25 added to the first-level rating to ensure a unified rating scale. For instance, a rating of 3.5 Creek would remain as 3.5, and a rating of 3.5 Palm would be adjusted to 3.75 under the unified system.

For additional clarity, we've provided a table below that shows the correspondence between our existing rating names and their future counterparts

• Effective Date:
These changes will take effect from January 1st, 2024, and will be reflected in our January-March schedule.

Highlights of the Decision:

1. Simplification and Consistency:
The integration of 'Palm' and 'Creek' into numeric values aims to simplify the naming for better clarity among our members.

2. Efficient Evaluation:
This unified naming streamlines evaluations, making it easier to compare and manage skill levels among our members.

3. Future Scalability:
The unified naming ensures scalability and easier management for potential group expansions.

This decision has been unanimously approved by the Board and will be implemented accordingly. All Wild Apricot Groups representing our current ratings will be updated to align with the new unified naming.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this decision, which aligns with our commitment to bettering our club's operations and member experiences.

Sincerely,

The Palm Creek Pickleball Club Board

Code of Ethics for Line Calling. Pickleball is played according to specific rules. It also requires a code of ethics for line-calling responsibilities when performed by players. A few of these are:

6.C.6. Players shall not call a ball "out" unless they can clearly see a space between the line and the ball as it hits the ground.

6.C.7. All "out" calls must be made prior to the ball being hit by the opponent or before the ball becomes dead.

6.C.8. In doubles play, if one player calls the ball "out" and the partner calls it "in" then doubt exists and the team's call will be "in." Any player may appeal a call to the referee. If the referee did not see the ball, the ball is considered in.

20 - Good Sportsmanship

With good sportsmanship we all win, on and off the court. Let's keep the game fun, the smiles big and the high-fives flying!

Let's sprinkle some kindness, dash it with respect and serve up a big slice of fair play!

Let's keep the Palm Creek Pickleball spirit alive by embracing good sportsmanship. Remember it's not just about winning, but how we play the game.

Respect, fairness and encouragement makes our community stronger. Let's play and compete with honor, let's support each other every step of the way!

Go Go Go...Good sportsmanship - Grace - Gratitude!

Did you know there is an official way to call the score in order to start a pickleball game? Per the Official USA Pickleball Rulebook:

4.J. Calling the Score in Doubles Matches. The score is called as three numbers in doubles matches. The proper sequence for calling the score is: serving team's score - receiving team's score - the server number (one or two), (e.g., "zero-one-one"). To start each game, the score will be called as "zero-zero-two."
