As you know, expanding the Board by two members was approved at the Dec. General Meeting.

In order to maintain continuity, the Board has asked Diane Martin and Jean-Martin(JM) Verreault to extend their terms by one year. Both JM, and Diane have accepted the request to extend for one year.

Thank you!

 

Nominations for the open seats will be accepted beginning January 2 - 31. Nominations must be in writing with a short biography. Send to Chuck Kenney. In considering a run for the Board, please read the following policies:

Cancer Awareness Fundraisers

Every year Palm Creek sponsors a Cancer Awareness Weekend. Each Club is asked to help donate. The money goes to the Alliance Cancer Support Center located in Casa Grande.

The Pickleball Club will once again sponsor the Duck Race on February 3.

Ducks will go on sale January 23.

The $1 donation per Round Robin played in January will begin January 2. You will receive a sticker for a one-time donation of $20. Jars located at the Welcome Table.

Silent Auction RR Cabinets

All cabinets have been sold. Proceeds of $266 will be donated to the Alliance Cancer Support Center.

Buckets for Broken Balls

The buckets are back out to collect broken balls. The Dance Decorations Committee is going to use them.

When you need to cross a court with a game in progress, wait until there is a break in play before asking to cross the court. Use the outer gates to enter a court when possible.

When you leave a court: Return ball to the sleeve, close the gate.

Profanity is a no-no.

No bikes in the center hallway.

NO items ( except water bottles) inside the courts.

Hang all bags on the outside of the fence.

Please be mindful of wearing fragrances.

Please walk your bike in front of the Pavilion.

Please slow down when passing in front of Pavilion in a golf cart.

Need a Shop Cabinet?

The Club has purchased new Round Robin Cabinets. We are offering the old cabinets to Club members.

A Silent Auction will begin Monday January 9, and conclude on Thursday January 12. Bid sheets will be attached to each cabinet. The cabinets will be located along the wall by courts 25 and 26.

Referee Training

Anyone planning to attend the Referee Training on January 12, there is some work to be done in advance:

  1. Become a member of USA Pickleball
  2. Go to the USA Pickleball website, click the drop box in the upper right corner, >>Get Involved>>Officiating>>Training Media>>Referee Training Power Point.
  3. Bring your paddle and be prepared to play some games while students practice their referee skills.
  4. Training from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. in the San Tan Room, then on to the courts.

When you need to cross a court with a game in progress, wait until there is a break in play before asking to cross the court. Use the outer gates to enter a court when possible.

When you leave a court: Return ball to the sleeve, close the gate.

Profanity is a no-no.

No bikes in the center hallway.

NO items ( except water bottles) inside the courts.

The beginning date for Organized Round Robins is

November 7, 2022. Schedule to be released soon.

Court Painting

Palm Creek has closed off courts 9-12 and 17-20.

We have no information on when resurfacing and painting will begin, but we expect it to be completed for the start of our Organized Play on November 7.

Military Tournament

We have received word that Palm Creek/Sun Communities will be hosting the

Military Battle of the Branches Pickleball Tournament

November 10 - 12, 2022

The Palm Creek Pickleball Club has offered to provide volunteers for this event. SUG invites coming soon.

ASSESSMENTS

Hi Everyone. It's time to start thinking about Palm Creek and pickleball.

Assessments will be a little different this year. There will be a skills test and a four-person round robin. The assessments will be much more objective, and I am hoping there won't be a long waiting list.

I am working with John Winston and Wild Apricot on the sign-up process. I am asking everyone to wait until you are in the park to sign up for assessments.

To make this work we will need a lot of volunteers, so we don't have a long waiting list. As I have said, evaluations will be much more objective so don't be intimidated. There will be one volunteer feeding the balls and one volunteer recording. Please - please consider volunteering.

I will be arriving mid-October. Assessments and training of volunteers will start ASAP.

Everyone practice your dinks, drop shots, serves, and return of serves.
