Palm Creek Pickleball Club Members:

Attached you will find the summary of the results of the Round Robin Ratings Committee. A small group from each skill level was given flexibility to determine the criteria that would be utilized at their level for the 2019-20 season. The following guidelines have taken the goal of providing multiple ways to be able to move up, or down, into effect as was requested by you our members. These guidelines also provide greater flexibility than is currently in use. The Club Board has approved these guidelines for the 2019-2020 season.

When Club members from the 2018-19 season renew their membership, they will be placed in the appropriate group based on the criteria stated below. Players who were not members in 2018-19, will be required to have an assessment to determine where they play, unless they have a UTPR or IPTPA rating.


2.0 RR Level Ratings

2.0 Players from the 2018-19 season will be grandfathered into the 2.0 level for the 2019-2020 season.

Beginning players will be required to participate in the Introduction to Pickleball class.

During the season:

2.0 players will be assessed by Mentors, Coaches, and Round Robin Captains for advancement to the 2.5 level.

2.5 RR Level Ratings

2.5 players from the 2018-19 season will be grandfathered into the 2.5 level for the 2019-20 season.

During the season:

2.5 players will be assessed by Mentors, Coaches, and Round Robin Captains for advancement to the 3.0 level.

3.0 RR Level Ratings

3.0 players from the 2018-19 season will be grandfathered into the 3.0 level for 2019-20 season.

3.0 level RR will accept both UTPR and IPTPA ratings.

New players to the Club will need to be assessed prior to placement at the 3.0 level.

3.0 level players will be able to select between Social and Competitive RR.

3.0 men and women will have the opportunity to participate in Ladder play.

During the season:

Ladder play will be one mechanism for assessing a player's ability to advance to the 3.5 level. This still needs to be finalized.

2.5 level players will be advanced to 3.0 level only by the recommendation of the Mentor, Coach, or RR Captain.

3.5 RR Level Ratings

When 3.5 level players renew for the 2019-20 season, they will be placed in the appropriate group based on selected criteria.

3.5 level RR will accept bothe UTPR and IPTPA ratings criteria.

Players who were not Club members in 2018-19 will be required to have an assessment to determine where they play.

Skill Groups for 3.5 Level:

Palm- Composed of players with:

UTPR of 3.5-3.9 as of the date of membership for the 2019-20 season.

IPTPA rating of 3.5 as of the date of membership for the 2019-20 season.

Creek- Composed of players with:

Legacy rating of 3.5 as of the Palm Creek Roster dated March 31, 2019.

Club rating of 3.5 as of the Palm Creek Roster dated March 31, 2019.

Social- Composed of players with:

Rating of 3.5 Social as of the Palm Creek Roster dated March 31, 2019.

During the season:

Players will be assigned to Palm or Creek Levels based on assessment from the 3.5 Assessment Team.

Players may also move up to 3.5 and within 3.5 based on Ladder play. This still needs to be finalized.

4.0 RR Level Ratings

4.0 players from the 2019-19 season will be grandfathered into the 4.0 level for the 2019-20 season.

Players with UTPR 4.0-4.499 and/or IPTPA Rating of 4.0 will be allowed to play at the 4.0 level.

During the season:

The RR Captain along with the assessment team may invite players, off the list of interested players, to try out by playing in two or three RRs while being evaluated to ensure they can play at the level of play desired.

Play in the ladder to demonstrate their ability to play at the 4.0 level by working their way up from their current level. A control group (8+) players are needed to play in the ladder to ensure this is representative of the level we have established.

A temporary pass can be used for short-term visitors to try out the level. If they are not in the right level (monitor can decide) they will be asked to play at a different level.

4.5 RR Level Ratings

Players that have a USAPA Legacy rating of 4.5 as of November 1, 2018 will be grandfathered into the 4.5 group.

During the season:

New players and existing members who do not meet the November 1, 2018 date can request to join the 4.5 group by having at least one of the following, and agreeing to be assessed by the 4.5 assessment team.

Win a medal in a tier two 4.5 tournament with at least 6 teams in the bracket.

Have a USAPA UTPR rating of at least 4.5 in the MXD or Doubles category.

Have an IPTPA 4.5 rating.

For players who have none of the above, a player can request to be assessed.

An Assessment Team will be formed to review any requests to join the 4.5 Level. The Team will be responsible for setting guidelines and procedures for assessing players, and to maintain the high level of 4.5 play expected at Palm Creek.

5.0 RR Level Ratings

5.0 players from the 2018-19 season will be grandfathered into the 5.0 level for the 2019-20 season.

During the season:

There will be a 3-person assessment team. Their purpose will be:

To observe and evaluate current 4.5 players for a possible trial in the 5.0 RR.

To observe and evaluate new players to the park that are potential candidates for a trial in the 5.0 RR.

To observe and evaluate unrated players that are potential candidates for a trial in the 5.0 RR.

Ability to move from 4.5 to 5.0 Level

If a player meets either #1 or #2 below it will permit him/her to join two 5.0 RRs and be assessed for suitability for 5.0 RR level play. If he/she meets criteria #3 they will automatically join the 5.0 level play.

Palm Creek 4.5 Round Robin players demonstrating the skills and performance of the 5.0 level, based on observation by the 5.0 assessment team during 4.5 RRs.

Palm Creek 4.5 Round Robin players, and new-to-the-Club players who have had success in 5.0 level play in tournaments. Success is determined by having won medals and matches at the 5.0 level in at least two sanctioned tournaments.

Palm Creek 4.5 Round Robin players who have achieved a UTPR of 5.0 or above, on October 1, 2019 or January 1, 2020.
